the backdrop guide
The setting of your session plays a quiet but powerful role in how your story is told. Whether you’re drawn to golden fields, urban textures, dreamy studios, or quiet forest trails, we’ve curated a list of our favorite places to help guide and inspire your vision. Each location offers something different—light, mood, energy—and we’re here to help you choose one that feels like you. Let’s find the perfect backdrop together.
Bloomington-Normal
Bloomington is where it all started for us—and that means it’s more than just a location. It’s a place that holds so many of our firsts: first wedding, first senior session, and even our first golden hour sprint chasing that last bit of light. We know the backroads, the overlooked corners, and the best times to catch that dreamy, glowy light. It’s home.
One of our favorite places to shoot is around Downtown Bloomington and Maxwell Park—there’s just something magical about the brick walls and the sky during sunset. The colors are unreal. And in the fall? It’s a painter’s dream. Downtown Bloomington also has its own kind of charm—industrial brick walls, string lights, and coffee shops that double as the perfect cozy session backdrop.
Springfield, IL
Springfield has this beautiful blend of historical elegance and everyday comfort that makes every session feel extra special. Shooting here always feels like stepping into a storybook. From the stunning architecture of the Capitol building to the peaceful paths at Washington Park, there’s a sense of timelessness that photographs so effortlessly.
We’ve spent entire afternoons wandering through the botanical gardens, capturing those sweet in-between moments of laughter and quiet glances. The way the light filters through the tall trees is unreal—especially in the spring and fall. And if you're into a more classic look, the old-world buildings downtown make for stunning, editorial-style portraits.
What makes Springfield so great is its versatility. Whether you want to feel like you’re in a Jane Austen novel or just want a relaxed session by the water, this city has it all. It’s one of our favorite places for engagement sessions and senior shoots because there's so much space to slow down and soak in the moment. Every shoot here feels intentional, like it was meant to happen exactly that way.
Missouri
Now that we’re rooted near the St. Louis area, we’ve fallen in love with how much Missouri has to offer. From vibrant city streets to hidden trails tucked away in state parks, it’s a photographer’s playground. We love the variety—the skyline views downtown, the bold colors of Forest Park in the fall, and even the calm, quiet beauty of rural backroads outside the city.
One of our favorite spots for engagement or branding sessions is downtown St. Louis near the Arch or the Citygarden—it brings a modern, energetic vibe that contrasts beautifully with soft, romantic posing. For families or seniors who want a more relaxed and natural feel, we often explore trails around Castlewood State Park or Tower Grove. There’s something refreshing about taking a break from the hustle and just being surrounded by nature.
What makes Missouri special is that it's unpredictable in the best way. We never know what new spot we’ll discover or what spontaneous moments we’ll capture. Whether you're from the area or visiting, we’re always up for an adventure to find the perfect place that feels like you.
Peoria, IL
Peoria has this beautiful way of surprising you. The first time we shot here, we weren’t expecting to fall in love with it the way we did—but the riverfront views, historic neighborhoods, and peaceful parks completely stole our hearts. There’s such a wide variety here that it feels like a new experience every time we visit.
We adore shooting along the Peoria Riverwalk—it has the perfect balance of urban meets nature. With the water glistening behind you and soft sunset light bouncing off the old brick buildings, it feels romantic and cinematic all at once. Glen Oak Park is another favorite, especially in spring when the flowers are blooming and everything feels fresh and full of life. We’ve done everything from surprise proposals to senior sessions here, and each one feels uniquely magical.
What makes Peoria special for us is how connected it feels. People smile at you on the street. There’s space to breathe, to slow down, to really capture the in-between moments. Whether we’re photographing a couple dancing on the docks, a mama holding her newborn in a quiet garden, or a graduate chasing dreams under the city skyline—Peoria always gives us something real, something golden, and something worth remembering.
Studio
Our studio is where cozy meets creativity. It’s a space we’ve intentionally designed to feel welcoming, soft, and simple. Sometimes the weather doesn’t cooperate—or sometimes you just want something a little more minimal. That’s where the studio shines.
We keep things warm and clean, with neutral tones, textured backdrops, and natural light that flatters every skin tone. This is our go-to for newborn sessions, motherhood portraits, and branding shoots. It’s quiet, private, and a place where you can relax and just be. No distractions. No pressure. Just you and your people, soaking in the moment.
And don’t worry—just because it’s a studio doesn’t mean it lacks personality. We bring out cozy blankets, dried florals, or pops of color depending on the season or your vibe. Every session is tailored to fit your style, and we promise you’ll leave feeling seen, celebrated, and maybe just a little more in love with yourself than when you walked in.
